Music for March ♬

It's been a while since I've made a monthly music list so here are some of my newly discovered music that I absolutely recommend:

Youth Lagoon - The Year of Hibernation (2011)
I discovered them on Pandora and loved the song 17. Their music is incredibly calming and soothing. I listened to the rest of their album and was not disappointed. My favorite song was Afternoon. "And when I speak I don't make sense, but believe me when I see." I really recommend this band for fans of: Bombay Bicycle Club, Local Natives, and Daughter.

Portugal. The Man - Evil Friends - (2013)
This is another band I discovered on Pandora. I actually discovered them last year but I've never really heard the full album until just recently. My favorite song off of the album is Sea of Air and the acoustic version is so amazing. "When you talk to God about suicide, when you never hear back I hope your still alive and that part of you that never cared, well you can leave it here in the sea of air." I recommend this for fans of: Young the Giant, the Nationals, and Foster the People.

Young the Giant - Mind Over Matter (2014)
I've actually been a fan of Young the Giant since 7th grade so this isn't really much of a discovery, but oh well. When they announced they were releasing a new album I was so excited! This album definitely did not disappoint. My favorite song off the album is Paralysis. "Lately I've been thinking I'm not feeling nothing at all." I recommend this band for fans of: Two Door Cinema Club, Vampire Weekend, and Grouplove.

Valentines Day gift ideas ♡

It's officially February and that means its the month of Valentines Day! A day dedicated to love, lust, and gift giving. Here's a bunch of really cute simple gift ideas to give to that special someone. ♡

1. A mix cd - this idea is a really sweet idea for your significant other or even your crush, if you're feeling brave. You could put any song of your choosing to get your message across to them and if that's not cool and romantic then I don't know what is.












2. A simple card - a card is the perfect way to write about how you feel about them. It's also fairly simple and cheap but also meaningful (depending on what you write). You can get one here at Urban Outfitters for only 5 bucks.












3. Matching Necklaces - matching necklaces are an ideal gift for the both of you. It's a great way to express your relationship with others. The cost is also quite moderate. You can get this here on etsy.

4. Couples Activity Book - this a fun activity for couples to do on V-Day. You basically learn more about each other through a series of fun activities and questions. You can get one here at Barnes & Nobles.












And if you're single, just get a group of also single friends to treat yourselves with some eye candy and have an anti-love movie marathon. Or you could even have a "secret admirers" gift party. Just because you're single on V-day doesn't mean you can't have some fun!

Movie Review: Her

(Rated R, by the way.)

On a trip to the mall, my friends and I decided to watch the film Her. I've been dying to see this movie since I first saw the trailer (Huge fan of River & Joaquin Phoenix.) The movie is a beautifully told sci-fi love story by Spike Jonze. It takes place in the distant future and tells the story of Theodore Twombly, a recently divorced man who finds solace in an OS (an advanced operating system) who names herself Samantha. The two then fall in love but then soon realize how complex their relationship is.

There is just so much to love about this movie. The concept, the acting, the script, the writing, the soundtrack, and basically just the whole style of the movie is so distinct and so original. I found it very difficult to hold back my tears on some of the scenes. It's such an emotional and diverse piece, but at the same time funny and witty. This movie is definitely not for children because it  has some adult content but it is ideal for young adults. (Maybe teenagers if they can handle it.)

All in all, this film is brilliant, compelling, and I recommend it for those who are fans of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. I have absolutely nothing bad to say about this film. This is undoubtedly a must-see film.

Music for November ♬

OK so this post basically what I've been currently listening to and maybe it'll help you guys discover more music. Lets start:

Touché Amoré - Is Survived By (2013)

I just recently started listening to Touché Amore and it's one of the best decisions I've made so far this year. I remember a friend of mine showed them to me in 9th grade and I was absolutely scared of them. I think it was just the vocals (and maybe my lack of maturity at the time) but this year when I rediscovered them, I started really understanding the lyrics and I connected with them. My favorite song off the album is Harbor. "Without you I'm not pure, without you I'm not clean but if I'm going down with you, then you're going down with me." Every time I hear Jeremy Bolm sing that lyric, I can just feel his angst and that's what I love most about this album.

                                                    

Citizen - Youth (2013)

Youth is one of my favorite albums so far this year. I heard of them through some friends and I've loved their music since. They were also at my Warped Tour date but I couldn't see them because my friend wanted me to go with her to watch some other set and I regret it sooo much. I heard it was a really good show too. My favorite song off of the album is Speaking With a Ghost. "Overnight I fell apart, I used to wonder where you've been, or where you were." I'm also seeing them on November 27th with Polar Bear Club and I'm really excited! 

Seahaven - Winter Forever (2011)
I saved the best for last: Winter Forever by Seahaven. I discovered them when I went to Transit's show on April 20th @ the Chain Reaction. That show was so amazing and it was one of the best shows I've ever been to. After that show, I got hooked on them and they became one of my favorite bands. I downloaded all their albums but Winter Forever was the one that really got to me. I can't even pick a favorite song because I love them all so much but if I did it'd probably be Goodnight. "I've been waiting for the sun to dry up all this rain, but I'm caught out in the storm." I can go on and on about this band but I'll keep it short: listen to them, you will not regret it.
